Does Click Fraud Detection Work? How AI Can Help to Detect Fraudsters

You may have heard it whispered in the locker rooms or chatted about by the water fountain and it’s started to grow in volume, but what is click fraud and how can you go about reducing its impact on your business?

What is Click Fraud?

Since the dawn of PPC, click fraud has been right there with it. Consider yourself paying to have your ads plastered all over Google and now say that one of these ads costs as much as £9 per click, how long do you think it’ll be before a competitor notices this strategy and starts falsely clicking away on your ads? Spam bots are also another concern along with many others.

That’s the basis of click fraud. Noticing the number of clicks increasing but the level of engagement stagnant? You might be at the hands of click fraud and there’s only so long before you’ll consider pulling down your ads or getting to bottom of the issue.

Click Fraud Detection Algorithms

All is not however lost and click fraud detection algorithms can be implemented to your advantage to find those fraudulent clickers and restore order in the Google-sphere. Everyone leaves a trace, no matter how hard they try to cover it up, maybe an IP, a location, a common browser etc.

But it’s very difficult to pick up without AI and there’s plenty of click fraud detection algorithms to choose from. Our go to comes in the form of ‘PPC Protect’ and means that you don’t have to worry as the artificial intelligence will do all the work and leave you with the results you’re after.

How PPC Protect Detects Click Fraud

PPC Protect isn’t magic, but it’s pretty damn close and with an algorithm that I both don’t understand and wasn’t allowed to look into (for obvious reasons) the guys gave us 4 simple steps that they use to identify click fraud.

1. User Clicks

The first port of call is the user clicks. When a user clicks an Ad on any Google page, it will be redirected through the PPC Protect monitoring funnel. Here it’s got nowhere to hide as the AI begins to do its work.

2. Data Collection

Data is collected from the user including their device, IP address, resolution, user agent and 100+ other data points to compare and contrast with each other.

3. Analysis of Data

This data is then used for the algorithm to make a series of judgements to decide whether or not the click is genuine or fraudulent. The algorithms are top secret, but with a little bit of testing it’s easy to see that they’re pretty on the money.

4. Decision Made

Just like that, the algorithm will go ahead and make a decision as to whether or not you’ve got fraudulent clicks coming your way. It’ll mark them as genuine, fraudulent or suspicious if there’s not quite enough evidence to split the hairs.

To conclude, PPC Protect allows you to block fraudsters without lifting a finger. They’ve implemented the most effective automatic IP blocking system around as it will automatically determine when click fraud occurs and block that IP from ever seeing your ads. Clever – and saves money too! Your Digital Marketer is proud to announce that PPC Protect is offered to all of our clients, free of charge.
