It doesn’t take a genius to realise that the world is getting more complex. Whether people are trying to get a grip of economic and political uncertainty or deciding where to eat, Google has always been the go-to place to get information. However, as the world gets more complex, technology continues to simplify everyday tasks.
One way in which Google has made using their search functionality easier is by introducing the ability to search using voice. Smartphone users are now able to ask questions to their personal Google assistant and receive the same results as if they had typed the search query themselves. As a result, Google are now seeing 20% of searches in the Google App coming from voice.
Google are actively encouraging users to change the way they are using their search platform. Instead of typing search terms such as ‘London weather today’, users may now simply ask their Google assistant ‘Do I need an umbrella’. The truly impressive simplicity of this new method of searching is incredibly complex as it requires an understanding of spoken language, location, time and the user’s intent before a reliable answer can be provided.
One way in which companies are adapting to this change is by taking advantage of Google’s fully optimisable Pay Per Click platform, called AdWords. As its name suggests, with PPC you only pay for a website visitor if they click your advert. My personal favorite benefit of Google AdWords is that it allows your business to be found by people on Google precisely when they’re searching for the things that you offer, allowing you to reach your customers, whichever device they’re on.
As technology continues to improve and the use of voice search continues to rise, there will be an increase in opportunity for brands to provide potential customers with valuable information. Although PPC isn’t the only solution to getting ahead of the competition, I believe it’s the perfect way of getting your message across in a relevant and timely fashion.
